Rotarian of the Year

President's Message

Karen Tanksley, President
Rotary Club of Effingham County

I want to first thank the club for your confidence in allowing me to serve as your president this year. It is a huge compliment that you would entrust me with this responsibility, and I will take it very seriously.

This year’s Rotary International president, D.K. Lee has chosen for his goal “Make Dreams Real.” His goal as a world-wide club is to reduce child mortality. Our club will be looking for opportunities to help children in our community during the coming year, as well as others who need our assistance.

I would like to see our club be more visible in the community. There will always be a need for monetary assistance and as a club, we have and will continue to contribute to many worthwhile programs. However, there is also a need for “hands on” assistance and I hope as a Rotarian you will plan to be a part of all community projects in which the club chooses to participate. There are so many opportunities to practice “Service Above Self.”

As president this year, I encourage each of you as you go about your business and social activities, to always be on the lookout for new members. To grow our club so that we may continue to do new and bigger projects that will benefit those who may need us, we must have more Rotarians that are willing to give of their time and talents.

So, I ask for your support this year for myself and our board, so that we might continue to grow and become a more vibrant club. Together we can have a year of service to our local and international community for which we can all be proud.

My goal this year is to “keep the member in Rotary – and to keep Rotary in the member.”
